Duncan Enterprises Streamlines Its Mailroom
Operations With Neopost
Situation
When Maryan Milam joined Fresno, Calif.-based Duncan Enterprises
in 1997 as a mailroom supervisor, she determined that upgrading
her department's mailing and shipping equipment would speed up mail
and package processing. The company manufactures ceramics, paints,
glues, glazes and molds, and its customer base is made up largely
of companies that sell and distribute Duncan materials to ceramic
studios.
The department's daily volume was 65 to 130 pieces when she arrived,
and more than half of that total was packages, with the remainder
split almost evenly between flats, bills and invoices.
"What we needed," Milam says, "was a complete mailing and shipping
system that would allow us to do things like rate-shop among a wide
range of carriers and LTLs, as well as accurately post all of our
outgoing mail."
Milam also placed a high priority on ease of use for any new mailing
and shipping equipment that would be considered. The reason: Longtime
mailroom employee Tim Holzmer has cerebral palsy, which limits his
mobility.
Milam soon made an appointment with JMP Business Systems, a Fresno-based,
family-owned dealer of Neopost mailing and shipping products, as
well as with two of Neopost's competitors.
